I just purchased a Kenwood TS140s and was wondering if anyone had any info on where I could get an Operators manual, and tips or advice on running one? Was planning to install it in the ol dump truck. Is the mic plug a 6 or 8 pin and what is the wiring for the mic. I already know how to do the mod for 11 meter TX. What would be a good mic to run with it? I was thinking of using my Asatic 636L noise cancelling mic in the dump truck. Any and all info is appeciated.

Thanks Main, if I don't have any luck finding one for free I will give that guy a line and get one from him.

Doc, I tried www.kenwood.net, they only offer manuals for current production radios. I didn't find anything on the out of production models. I did send them an email asking fpr one though, we'll see if I get a response.

Thanks,

From the original post it sounded like you already have the radio, which made me wonder why you didn't just look at the mike connector and check it for yourself. But if you just bought it off eBay or somewhere else (good luck with that), there's a very clear picture of the front panel of the 140S on rigpix.com. You can see the mike connector and all EIGHT pins, nice and shiny. :D

whoops I dont know what I thought I was reading I had Yaesu pinout down but I see someone had gave you the pinout below for kenwood 8 pin so I wont bother Sorry about that confusion

Which mic? Why not the MC-43 thqt came standard with almost all Kenwood radios? It should work just fine.
One 'trick' with most Kenwood's is to be conservative with any processing. Turn it on if needed/wanted, but don't turn it up, it gets nasty real quick and it's just not needed.
Nice radios...

Oh, look at the mic wiring diagram in that manual. Yaesu mic wiring won't work.

Pin 1 is mic audio
Pin 2 is PTT
Pin 7 is Audio ground
Pin 8 is ground/ptt ground

I believe that is Kenwood 8 pin wiring.

I also like the stock battleship grey Kenwood hand mics. Built like a brick and sound good too. They also work quite nicely for close talking.

The Astatic 636L should also work well with it.

If you want a mic plug that is built like a battleship, find someone like cheapham.com that sells the Heil mic plugs...they are awesome.
