LesComm 8719-192 Expa kit, Cobra 148GTL & 2000GTL

If I had never seen or heard of the_mod : Cobra 2000GTL , 148GTL modifications, it would be appealing, but for the same price you can have the same 192 channels with no messing around with +-10KC, all sequential, and direct digital channel readout including the RC channels.. and thats for $68 shipped, and about the same difficulty to install.

The next release is supposed to be ready for more radios including the 858 chassis...

i had one off the rbb mod boards, never installed it. im waiting for the a r4 board now.

those other boards make it to complicated, your basically getting a band switch and a 10k switch. no smooth one click one frequency action.

I never seen a kit like this thats why I posted it its certainly not for the beginner type person to install LMAO!!

The kit they make for the Galaxy 959 and same radio boards is great just unplug a plug in the radio plug in the board a cable from the board to the radio done.

That is correct, but not for the board which is the subject of this post. This post was specific to the 148/2000/grant 8719 chassis radios, which do require a bit more to install.

Years ago when Doris Selman was still publishing the SECRET CB series books, one of the main contributors was a guy named Les Jernigan. He was a communications repair tech in the Navy. He was responsible for maintenance and repair of the Navy's state-pf-the-art communication equipment.. I never met him, but I spoke to him several times, and this guy was extremely knowlegeable about ANYTHING that had to do with radios. He always was a step ahead of everyone when it came to developing new mods and ideas. I think he was the editor of the last few volumes of SECRET CB. The name of his business was LesComm.

IF... this is the same guy who is selling the channel mod board shown in this thread, then I would believe that everything he says it will do is true. When the 858 board comes out I'll be standing in line to buy one.

399,

i wondered the same thing about this lescomm.
whether or not he's les jernigan or not.

the 858 board is not being produced by him, it is a new "the mod" board available at our yahoo group of the same name.

so far we have boards for the MB8719, RCI8719, UPD858, MC145106, and the SM5124.

if anyone is interested in getting one of our boards, just join the group and ask about the availability of the board you are looking for.
(board availability varies because they are made by one guy and he has a day job)
the_mod : Cobra 2000GTL , 148GTL modifications

they are about the same price as the lescomm board, but IMO its a much cooler mod. (i might be just a bit biased LOL)

"the mod" gives you a three digit channel display, and all you have to do is turn the channel selector knob. no fiddling with 10KC switches for the A channels, (they read out too! EX: 19A reads on the display when you are on 27.195) and no messing with band switches.

the freq ranges for the MB8719 chassis are:

low range: (11.1125 crystal) 26.175 to 28.085
high range: (11.3258 crystal) 26.815 to 28.725

any MB8719 chassis can be configured to get either range depending on which crystal you choose to use.

the freq ranges for other PLL's are different.

just join the group to find out what you need.

im not dissing lescomm's board, just letting people know that there are other mod boards out there.

later,
LC
