so I just ordered a gizmotchy 4 element beam and rotor, I have a 60' tower with a Omni up now, I have some extra coax on the run from the antenna to the junction box that I have at the base of the tower, should I leave the lmr400 all the way to the antenna and leave the extra loop of coax at the top of the tower for rotor turning or should I make a short jumper to go from the lmr400 to a stranded rg8 near the top of the tower to the antenna for better flex in the coax for rotor turning?? I know I need another coax to run the horizontal side and have enough rg8 to make that run down to my junction box.

thanks,

Your on the right track!! I also run a 4 element Gizmotchy amd have a 4 element 2 meter beam. Tom Charles is a great guy. Where did you order yours from? If you are ever needing help with that beam let me know I know these like the back of my hand.

If your ever looking for anything frome their Maco line or Gizmotchy line just give me a call neighbor U believe I sent you my cell number lastweek for the hamfest / swapmeet.

I have a Maco "Shooting Star" 4 elemet dual polarity beam here I am going to be selling along with a brandnew Jogunn 4 element dual polarity beam I have alot here Im starting to go through I have a bunch of base and handheld microphones Astatic, Turner ETC If anyone in your neck of the woods is looking for anything let me know ;) I would do some horse trading if it helped a person out.

ordered from copper, sound good, ill get ahold of you sometime and come check out what you have.

so do you think the lmr400 will be ok with the rotor set-up or should I make a rg8 jumper for the top of the tower to the antenna, lots of opinions on the lmr400 with a rotor loop online,, some say they use it fine with a large enough loop, others say no its too stiff

Regular LMR-400 has a solid center conductor and is therefore pretty rigid; not a good idea to make it flex over and over and o... (you get the idea).

A piece of RG-213 would be (actually, IS) my choice for between the far end of the LMR-400 and the feedpoint of the antenna. It has a stranded center conductor so it's pretty flexible, and it's built to Military Standards whereas RG-8 hasn't been for decades.

sounds good, I have some rg213 sittin here, I will make a jumper from the tower to the antenna,, what is the best method to make the rotor loop, anyone have pics of their set-up

doing some reading online about the gizmotchy and the adding of elements, got mine yesterday(4 element) actually 3 element + the power booster/ add on element. the instructions say that every director element should be 100",, but online some say the add on elements should be shorter as you add more elements, just got an e-mail back from gizmotchy and this is what they say:

The instructions that are with the Gizmotchy were written years ago. The original instructions said to make all of the directors 100". Over the years many people have shortened the 4th element 1". Both ways will work.

We are presently working on new updates for the Gizmotchy antenna. When we get done we will have new instructions printed up.

reflector 109"
driven 105"
1st director 100"
2nd director 99"
