I would like to find a quality ssb radio but i have a limit on power. Cant run a 400w rig. Only 100w or maybe a bit more. Ive been lookng at what is out there and not finding a good one. If you have any opinions on what i should try im all ears. I was thinking about the 955 but its js over priced as far as i can see and read.
I was thinking a 2970 would be nice but the dx model will pull too many amps i think. I sold my 94hp and it drifted a lot. I dont care about echo and all that bs. 100w i can do.

2950dx dont do 100w as far as i read.
The 706 is not a bad idea. I hadnt thought about going that route. I am a ham so why not an hf rig. Now to find a price that fits in my budget.
Anyone else?

any of the small rigs will do for mobile, 706mkiig is nice rig, add an external tuner and tune that steel whip for multi band use.

Kenwood ts50 or similar. Pick you rig for mobile, . 300 w external tuner and you should be able to work 10 through 15 or maybe even 17

Well if your a ham then you already know more then us cb'ers so why even ask!!!!!!! I was gonna say RCI 2970 N2 but like I said that's a peon radio for hams so ya know.

IIRC, the IC-706 doesn't have replacement finals made any more.
So this might become a problem if it ever breaks on you.

Think a used Kenwood TS-480SAT or a Yaesu FT-897D might be a better solution but paying a higher price in the used market is probable.

That's not very nice.

If you read the post I was looking for a CB/10meter rig to start with.

As far as the HF rigs go they want a lot of money for them even used. I will be using this on 11meters as I drive truck for a living and that is why I hadn't thought about the HF rig.

Also a 2970N2 does way more power than 100W! I cant run power wires to the batteries. This is why I'm limited to 100W.

there are 2 versions of PA's in the 706MKII series,....

don't even consider anything with a SN lower than 16xxxxx.

actually ,.. think hard about any 706, unless it is really cheap, there are much better rigs avail now.

how about a Magnum 257HP or an Omega Force S45HP both do close to 75 watts on SSB have Great audio and hear like an elephant.

you might be wishfull thinking any radio that is in the 100 watt range you would want to run directly to the battery. the magnum 257 or RCI 2970N2 maybe your best bet cost wise. the 2970N2 you don't have to run the power wide open. but 100 watt radio the battery maybe the only way to power it right.
