I sold my Kenwood TS- 440S and was thinking about getting another but may consider other models I have a new Yaesu FT-840 but want another radio. That Kenwood really had a nice filtered and clear recieve this Yaesu is ok but has a little more noise at times where Im at. So just wondering what you all think thanks Tony

I was told by a few people out here to try an Icom that was kinda what made me post a strange post like this to see what you all would say or what you thought. Im gonna look into one now thanks for the ironic input and advice......Tony......

what is a fare price for a 751A?? I found one but want to know what there worth in decent shape and I can adjust from there.

My used market radio guide says good shape should be about $400...a little more if it's in very good shape. Like new shows upper $500 price range.

Icom 738 ------>ICOM IC-738 HF 100 WATT WITH AUTO TUNER

THIS IS A 13.8 VDC UNIT .. 20 AMP SUPPLY NEEDED

THIS ONE HAS NICOTINE STAINS INSIDE THE DISPLAY ON THE CLEAR PLASTIC FACE

IF YOU WANT TO TAKE IT APART IT WILL CLEAN OFF BUT IT ONLY SHOWS IN BRIGHT LIGHT AND NOT DURING OPERATION

IF YOU DON'T SMOKE DON'T BUY THIS ONE

THUS I AM LETTING IT GO FOR A LOW PRICE

UNIT WORKS FULLY AS INTENDED

If it is functionally in good condition and was just in a smoking enviroment it can be cleaned up.I prefer non smoking rigs but if you can save a couple hundred it would be worth the effort but I would try to talk him down.
In good shape they go for between $600.00 to $750.00 range. So that isnt a bad price.Good luck with your search for a rig.73

Get filters for the yahoo. That will change the performance of the radio much higher. If you don't do CW, just get the SSB filter. If you do CW, the standard CW filter works great and can be put in the second port.

Sorry abouts any typos I can't see too well today.

hf rig

ihav ethe yaesu 840 it is a back up rig for me. i recently bought a kenwood ts-2000 i love it you get alot for the price compared to alot of other hf rigs. i have hear dsome bad thing about icoms like the 703 and the 706 they seem to lose power an djust stop to work I know a guy who bought a icom 706 th4e power droped otu of it he got it replace and a month later it happened again so the gave him a 703 he has had 3 of them in the past 16 month and they just cut out in him tghe only thing done is the 11m mods which he get done at the shop where he buys it???. Iwould tryt to find a yeasu or a kenwood hf rig i dont really trust icom

Icom

Remember the first "mini" Yaesus? They were giving trouble left and right. I've had 3 706's and all have worked fine. I now have 2 MKIIG's and no trouble at all. I believe that the 706 is actually the runaway favorite on the market in terms of sales. All radios can have trouble. I don't have a "favorite" and have had every one of the "big 3" at one time or the other.
They all have good and bad rigs.
:D

I also had no trouble with my 706MKIIG.I did have trouble with my 746Pro RF section right after I bought it but Icom repaired it real fast and I have had no problems since and it is a great rig.
I have owned three Icom 738s over the years and had no problems with them.Just an idiot for ever getting rid of the first one.
I really like my V8000 also.I run all Icom except for my old trusty 520S Kenwood.I have owned TS440 SATs and they were good rigs.
I started out a Yaesu man in the 70s and then switched to Kenwood and now Icom.
I have no brand loyalty but Icom has been good to me and I feel they offer the most bang for the buck.Of course I bought mine before the prices jumped up.73
