That "spec analyzer" function is not what I would call a spec analyzer. It is more of a station monitor. It just looks at the audio spectrum and not the RF spectrum. A spec analyzer should look at harmonics across the FULL spectrum at the same time. As for your question, not that long ago you could buy a decent SWR/power meter and a minimum 100Mhz scope and use the scope as a station monitor for that if you looked around. I realize the station monitor/scope would not have all the fancy readout of the LP-500 but do you really need it? How useful is it for day to day operations?
Besides my answer really did mean simpler equipment in general, less to learn about how to do something you do not really need to do anyway, and operators that knew their gear literally inside and out.
If that is $800.00 that is a steal and Ide love one and this would be my next purchase as far as a meter goes. Everything you need all rolled into one and less jumpers / cables PERFECT!!!

These meters have already been proven tested and You get what you pay for as a matter of fact I have quite a few meters I should sell all these Dozy metrsd ETC and just buy one od these LP-500 meters Ill just keep all my Ham meters including the Radio shack 2000 watt meters I have which I like I have the digital and analog units.
