Cool, I have been trying to make contact with them for years. Do you know what Island? I work with some guys on the Island of Kwajalein, none are hams though.
HL-821 very nice and congrats. Working DX into the pacific is always fun.
I worked V73RY (Randy) on the Island of Kwajalein,Rep of the Marshall Is.
This was done back on 1/13/08 on 15 meters with 100 watts and an antron 99........QSL card is now on my wall Good DXing
On edit: I did work LW9EOC (Tim) from Argentina today on 15 meters with same setup.I'v now worked Tim atleast 6 times.
One of my very first contacts as a Conditional-class licensee was with KX6BQ on Kwajalein. I knew the operator - he lived in Las Vegas not too far from me, but he was doing some work for the Air Force out there.
I'm not sure what's happened with the Marshall Islands as far as administration. They used to be a US territory with KX6 as the prefix, but from the new prefix (V7), I'd guess the British have taken over. Maybe I'll investigate this anomaly.
Here ya go Beetle. Straight for the pages of Wikipedia.Apparently thety are no longer a Trustee of the USA.
"In 1979 the Government of the Marshall Islands was officially established and the country became self-governing. In 1986 the Compact of Free Association with the United States entered into force, granting the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) its sovereignty. The Compact provided for aid and U.S. defense of the islands in exchange for continued U.S. military use of the missile testing range at Kwajalein Atoll. The independence was formally completed under international law in 1990, when the UN officially ended the Trusteeship status."
Thank you, Mr. QRN! That seems to answer the question that threatened to keep me awake all night. Well, maybe for a few seconds...
And with the changing times, I have to accept that a prefix beginning with a "V" no longer necessarily indicates a British or British Territory station. Like VE...!
Thanks, guys. It was Kwajalein Atoll. He was ready to call it a day when I got to him, so it was a pretty brief QSO. I didn't get a chance to talk to him about his locale, etc.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwajalein_Atoll
