I'm a new member here and joined because of the knowledge of these amps others have posted on older threads. I have had this box for about 5 years knew it was rare but could any good info on it. It was pretty beat up when I got it. Has a home made remote I'm not sure is wired properly and is getting tired and in need of rebuild. I have seen chats on 2879's and 455's but this one has 454's driving 492's. It also has gold anodized covers. Any info on this would be appreciated. GREAT FORUM!!! CHOPPER

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Sounds like a great amp, I am sure some of the solid state amp guys will chime in with their reply soon.

The M-1600 Had 2 MRF 292`s Driving 16 MRF 492`s
The M-1400 Had 2 MRF 455`s Driving 16 MRF 455`s
The M 1200,1400,1600 and 2K Amps had no switches on the Face and used a remote.
My guess, would be that it is a M1600, and someone may have replaced the two drive transistors with 454`s.
Not that much difference in the two.
The 492 is rated @ 11 Db gain, 70 watts@ 12.5 volts@50MHz
The 454 is Rated @ 12 Db gain, 80 watts@ 12.5 volts@ 30MHz
So close that it will not make much of a difference in the real world.
Nice old amps, they are real current hogs, got to feed them lots of amps to make them happy.
Only the very early ones had gold covers.

It does have have one switch and inputI jack on frontthe for a ext keyer a think. I'm not any sort of tech, but all input I can get would be great. You're right it sure is an alternator eater. It has slowly lost power over the last years and want to freshen it up but don't want to put in the hands of just anyone.

Hummm..

Should have no switches unless some one has added one on.
The factory remote is a model Mr-2 as seen below.
Can you post some pictures, of the Amp, remote, and inside so we can see the board?

I don`t know if Toll Free is still doing Amp work or not.

There is so much stuff in those amps, it would be tough to find anyone who would know how to repair them. Good Luck.
The messengers were top of the line in their day.

Looking for input on how to upload pics off mobile device. Any suggestions. I build custom and work on custom motorcycles. Alot of people can change parts on bikes but if you need you're s&s 124 inch engine rebuilt that parts changer probably isn't your best choice. Radio techs are the same. Can they just change a resistor or diode or can they build and tune a circuit? I've read alot of old posts on here and am confident im at the right place to find that tech.

Thanks for info audioshockwav. The switch on the front labeled int/ext with a homemade tag and a input jack next to it. If i key in ext position it wont key. The controller looks about the same size but it has micro toggles and 5 position rotary switch. Preamp and delay don't work. Pretty sure its a tweak job. Still trying to upload.
pics.

Sorry I tried and can't load any pics off my mobile and it is the only internet I have. I was really hoping to get a little more help. Its double stacked about 10x9x12 has 8 pills on one side 10 on other. It does have a switch labeled int/ext and a input jack marked "key". Also has fan and remote connections. I modulate on 27.165 up here in the sierras above Sacramento 30 miles west of tahoe. Stringbean told me about this site as we have talked many times during conditions. Right now the whole east coast is rolling in and I wish this box was doing its potential.

Is the amp not working at all? As a rule solid state amps do not just fade away with use like tube amps will do as the tubes start to go soft.
They generally go pop and suddenly they drop power...or short a transistor and blow a fuse.what are you getting for output and what are you puting in for drive?

Hi chopper i dont know what mobile brand u are using but on my nokia 3120classic i use ucweb java app but opera me or bolt should work also. It's hard to do anything with the stock browser. twilight zone is a good mobile app site for cracked files but you would be better off googling the source site as they're all free anyway.

Thanks for the tips. I have a DROID x2. Im new to this whole mobile web and forum thing. Ill see what I can do. Im running a 2950dx dead key about a watt swinging to 35. Been using same setup for about 5 years. It used to swing to about 1600 or more but lately im lucky to get 1000. The remote looks homemade and ssb delay doesn't work either does preamp. Sometimes relay sticks and it loses receive. Thanks for the input.
