You can Play with the Value of Cap untill you get the tone that you like, I think I wound up with 120 pf in mine...but I like to tinker.

Right now I an running a Cherokee CMP-400-PRB Mic into a Astatic MobileMax and I get plenty of good Audio reports on both AM and SSB ( I just have to remember to roll off the slapback on SSB  or get called several colorful names) This radio is being used as a base set-up right now....There are a few mics that will sound good on this radio, the RK 56 works well in a noisy mobile environment, and I have even used a Silver Eagle D-104 on the base.

Just monitor your audio and adjust the gain so it sounds good without picking up background noise.

My 2600 has a Chipswitch in it, and I also did Rogerbird`s AMC Mod as outlined below, that allows a little more headroom, but still lets the AMC to do its job ( click here>) micgain2

I Do NOT recommend cutting the AMC out when the above mod will allow plenty of audio with a power mic.

I like to try different mics and monitor my audio on another receiver to adjust the levels and then get on the air....they are great little radios.
