I have a Midland 77-250c Powermax. The radio is neither recieving or transmiting, but when i hook it up to external speakers and flip to PA i can here my self loud ans clear. I have hooked it up to a SWR meter and keyed my mic and the needle doesn't seem to wanna bug. I no my meter, coax cables, and antenna are in perfect working order because i also have a cobra that works wonderful with this equipment. I cant seem to find the problem. Feel free to either email me with any further quistions or suggestions on were i should start or wat u beleive my problem is.

Thanks,
HillBilly

You have a good radio, but one that is VERY prone to getting cold solder joints in and around the VCO section. If you're comfortable with soldering you can easily repair this yourself. Remove the top cover on the radio to reveal the solder side of the pc board and push on the pc board with a non-metallic object (a sharpie marker works great here) If it is a cold solder joint, you will hear your radio kick in and out of receive. You could also key the microphone while pushing and watch for the transmitter to kick in. When it does, you can keep pushing around lightly and find the sweet spot. When you find the sweet spot, resolder all connections in that area.

If you look carefully, a cold solder joint can be easy to spot. It will appear a dull grayish color while a good solder joint will appear shiny. The poke test works 99% of the time though.

I will not be there but hopefully by the end of this month I will have my New tower and antennas back in the air including my M2 6M5X. The old tower and all of my antennas came down in October 2023 during a Hurricane.
