Ok, i got to share this one, some guy on one of the Facebook groups is trying to sell a Fat boy Amp with " Military Spec 2879's" in it.
I been around the block a few times but this is a new one for me.

'JAN' = 'Joint Army/Navy'?

Toshiba spec sheets never mentioned military qualification for this part. Any manufacturer who spends the money to receive that qualification will make sure the prospective buyer knows about it.

We are looking at this the wrong way. We need to think out of the box. Perhaps it refers to Chinese or Vietnamese mil spec.

Sorry, kind of off subject but check out this guys amp builds. He actually spends the time and or money to rebrand the transistors with his name lol,

and the fan guards too. Wow! Never heard of this guy

I would venture to say that it is completely safe to assume it would be impossible for ANY 12 volt bipolar RF transistor in the 100 watt class, to receive a Mil Spec rating today. If the part is obsolete in the amateur market, you can be sure it went obsolete in military, industrial, commercial or medical applications, long ago, if it ever had those ratings in the first place.

Even down to the few watts used in hand held walkie talkies, bipolar transistors are extinct. Virtually everything uses MOSFET's today. Eleven meters, is the only place that clings to bipolar... Is that coincidental?

It's amazing what you can do with a 3-D printer...

Shellac on the resistor bodies is kinda cute, but is it necessary?

Shows a washed board...the lacquer will last until it's exposed to hot components...will look like hell and smell about the same after a comp-stomp in a parking lot

Else, if you think it's pretty - better donate it to a museum...

To help with the Mil-Spec - specification...

Dad once put it this way...

We make the bombs, we make the parts that go into them - do you think we would want to publish that?

X-Files put this a little closer when it comes to knowing Mil-Spec and parts designations
(in simple terms - they don't match to commercial or consumer labels)

They still adhere to this standard...​

Gotta give the "beard" guy credit for one thing. No "pill strips" held down by foam tape.

Make that two things. The transistors are held down with machine-thread bolts, not with sheet-metal screws.

Where I used to live we had several "kids" (Read : Never Grew Up Adults) around a small town nearby that used to take their frustrations out after the workweek was done, buy doing just that. Go out and try to stomp - squash, pumpkin themselves using their radio equipment (I say that loosely for they did have some big guns using crappy mods) to head out into the fields and do Fox Hunts amongst themselves .

The local Radio shop got quite a bit of business from them, Tube to Transistor, Big Iron or small box - that little place made quite a killing...proved that all is fair in love and war - for why take sides, when you can supply both?

Made for an interesting Friday and Saturday night chats for Beer, Linears' and Hormone driven Boys - nothing like it, and nothing like it since...
