mobile echo mics?

I never liked echo mics. Simple reason is, the 'just right' setting with them is a hair line difference. Driving around the sliders that most of them have get bumped too easy.

It's hard to set echo properly as by the time you can hear it on your own signal, you have too much. You have to set it so that you can barely notice it or you will sound like you are standing in a toilet (like most people with them do).

The best ones are boards or boxes where the adjustments will stay put. My favorite was the VC-200 which I still have kicking around my junk pile somewhere. It had reverb and echo settings so you could dial it in just right. Not sure they make them like that anymore.

ive herd very good things about the 452 also .
ive got a 2018 xtreme myself and i love it . i havnt had any failure problems with it , its been very sturdy for me .
i was aggravated with how easy the dials are bumped out of place by normal handling so i fixed that problem by doing this... YouTube - EC 2018 XTREME mic loose dial fix .....and i havnt had any problems since . :)

I have a DM 452, picked up used off of ebay for $10. No problems so far. I don't have any trouble with the slide bar moving. The action is fairly stiff and it stays in place.

Likewise, I had a new Tornado 2000 or whatever it was called, which is the same manufacturer and the model below the RF Limited 2018, and it only lasted a couple of months before it broke. And they ate batteries for breakfast.

The best way to echo does seem to be an internal echo board but they are a little pricey unless you can do it yourself. Most shops want around $85-$100 to put one in.

Good luck!

I ended up getting one of those dm452 workman/superstar mics new on ebay. It sucks. It squeals on every radio I try it on. I've tried 4. No matter how I set the mic gain or the echo level. When I put the battery in it, I noticed two pots on the inside of the radio, any one know what these are for?

Yeap ! DM-452 is a good decent echo mic , (when they work) They don't like Antron 99s or Imax 2000 fiberglass antenna's as well as magmounted antenna's(at least the ones I've seen over the years on those antenna's)

As with just about any power oriented microphone on just about any system , a good grounding system is always a plus concerning feedback and squeal concerning power driven mic's. yeap ! The DM-452's can be very
temperamental when poor grounding is involved. But many power typed mic's will.
Also to AA1QD , when you take the back off the mic , there should be 2 VR controls , one is for reverb and the other is a volume control. There's a good chance it may be turned up to much. You might try turning it down and see if that doesn't help eliminate your squeal.

Yes I'm pretty well set on the antenna grounding theory, thanks. Now is the vr for "volume control" you speak of, for echo volume or mic gain?

The grounding in this case has more to do with the radio chassis than antenna. Antennas will be totally irrelevant to microphones.....a squealing mic will have nothing to do with the antenna system.

Power amplified mics can be touchy but it all varies mic to mic and radio setup to radio setup. Anytime you're getting rf feedback or squealing from a mic, you'll need to find out exactly what is causing it in that particular installation, mic-radio combo, and address the specific problem.

Good luck

well, I figured out the pots left one is reverb, right is mic amp gain. This mic works great with the rear cover off, put it on and the squeal comes back. JUNK

Sounds like you figured it out ? ........The mic just don't like you dude :( Don't crappy , just finiky. What do you want for 20 bucks ? Some times you got to make them work , if you have ran out of options ? Sell it. (y)

weather or not given antenna has anything to go with a squealing problem or not ? Antron 99s and Imax 2000s I've personally had problems with. I more then likely just radiate all kinds of shit after 49 years. :headbang You too Double A. :)

I just got one of these same mics also and it's got the same problem. Sounds good with the back off. But when you put the back on it squeals like crazy. Junk

do you guys have talkback built into your radios?? if so power mics WILL NOT work
without feedback. also the audio pot [right side pot] needs to be just about off,
if your radio has good audio to start with. also may need to turn mi gain on radio
to 1-3 oclock along with turning down the vr inside the mic . these mics have alot of audio
and work great on stock 2950,2510,5010 .
