How well would a HT @ 5 whiskeys perform on local repeaters within a 15mi radius vs a mobile VHF system?
The antenna is the most important part of the system, really just trying to figure out wats the point of an HT ?
I will be using my HT on mile and up hikings elevation should help...right ...?

The whole point of an HT is convenience. That's really it. There are a lot of possible uses for an HT, but they all amount to it being easy to access, and carry around. They are all for short range stuff.

You live in SoCal where there are a thousand repeaters. An HT is very useful in an area like that.

The original question of "how well would it work" can only be answered by Vanilla Sky. Try it and see if it meets your requirements. If it doesn't, the answer to the question is "not very well".

If it does, the answer is "it works just fine."

WE can't tell you the answer; that's up to you. Experiment.

Got it. Works like I expect it to.
