Dude - they still do. Not as many small ones but the big ones are serious events. I went to one of the "smaller" big events this summer with well over 100 people and it was a 3 day event. People flew in from all over the

country and stayed in hotels. There was a bus shuttling people from the hotel to the event grounds where there was a keydown event, shops selling stuff, a big dinner BBQ, and then they had a actual evening event and dance.

 

It's awesome to be surrounded by people who love the hobby and they are some of the most diverse and friendly events I've ever attended. You can see a guy dressed up like a gang banger talking to a guy dressed up like a red-neck and another guy in slacks and a button up shirt and they are all smiling and laughing and talking radios. I think that is a beautiful thing. Too bad people can't find more common ground in the world.

 

I'll mention - lots of the people at the events were Ham's :)
