Saw a situation occur that I did not know about in advance with eBay's recent Seller changes.

All regular auctions are Free Listing and free Buy It Now upgrade.

The newly discovered quirk is that I had an auction going and a buyer made me a side offer which I accepted. So I ended the listing early. Upon doing that I noticed I was charged for the listing the full Final Value Fee. Those bastards.

So here's the fix for that.

If you want to end any listing early - do this instead. Edit the listing to remove the pictures and the text and the heading. Rename it "Test Auction" or something. No need to change the prices.

This way there is nothing for sale and no one will bid. Let the auction simply expire as normal. No fees for no sale.

i didnt know this one .thanks wire .
ebay is getting educated .soon they will start monitoring ebay emails (if they dont already)for offers of buying outside the auction .
i have sold outside auctions in the past as well. guess i wont be bothering anymore.

this whole shipping charge added to end of auction fees is a load of cr*p too.
now i just sold an item for 51.00 and 15.00 shipping so i will have to pay end of auction fee on 66.00 dollars
i make nothing on shipping .

That's violating the rules...naughty naughty...

To cover the measly addition of the shipping charge, just add a buck or two to the actual shipping...

What do they charge anyway? 15%? So if I sell an item for $100, I'd have to pay $15 to ebay, oh, but it cost me $100 to ship, so I'd actually have to pay $30 to ebay? Just charge $130 for the shipping and relesh in the extra profit...

Violating exactly what rule?

They are currently charging 9% of the total including shipping. So on a $100 item that would be $9 to ebay.

Nah....if I can.....I'll stick the whole fookin' hundred in my wallet

They've been screwing me for years

So if I can sell my stuff around the corner and screw them back....I'm game

I thought it was a violation of their terms to simply use them as an advertising medium and sell off-auction to buyers attracted through their service.

If you could sell off the corner, then you would not need ebay, but they provide you with a service that you apparently need and profit from, and they want to be paid their fair share for that.

You can always use Craigs List - results may vary, you get what you pay for, etc...

Such occurrences happen all the time on ebay. Someone looking at one of my items is free to use ebay's messaging system and make me an offer. I could turn them all down but why should I ? I sell plenty of things that do go through ebay, the vast majority in fact, so ebay makes and has made plenty of money off of me over the years. Hundreds and hundreds and dollars.

Perhaps this information will ease your troubled mind.

I feel great.
