Best time 10.90 Et @ Maple Grove , Redding , Pa . I broke out 2nd round dialed 11.00 went that fast 10.90 ( for me ) !
With some of those tires back then it was Smoke em you can break em loose!
Tall , way back , we spent so much $ getting it ready , didn't have enough to buy a new set of slicks ! One of our sponsors , rear quarter " Chet's Speed " gave us a set of used ones , we bought the reconditioning stuff you put on w/ a brush ( didn't work that well " , he saw how good the car ran & next week he gave us a brand new pair of Good Years !
I learned to listen for " The Chirp " doing a burn out . I heard that they are hot enough , back up , bring it up on the converter , give it a quick pop & hope the wheels will lift , stage & hope for the best !
I always enjoyed playing the mind games of bracket racing. I would hit it real damn hard and back out of the throttle and run a little slower than my dial in. When they saw me getting so far ahead of me they would break out trying to catch up handing me the win. I pissed a bunch of those guys off.
I got some good laughs at some of those knuckle heads. 14" slicks with a 283, 2 fours, stock exhaust with a three on the tree! The 454 in it came out of a 71' Caprice guy loved the car , hated the mileage . I paid $400 for the car , told the guy stop by in an hour I sell you the body back for $200 , he did and I got my 454 & bored it 30 over . Pretty good deal for me I think .
