Got a end feed wire up today and was scanning the band, And there it was 6V7S Senegal Africa... Keyed up with call and he came back.

First key up with new(used) 706M11G to bad he was a contester...

Now the door is open to more DX <<More audio>>

Congratulations!! The DX bug bites hard. It is the first of many more to come.

Is that End Fed one that is fed directly out of tuner? And how is it installed? There is nothing like a simple antenna that works.

73,
Mike

Coax into a balun and 120 feet of wire, I have a auto tune that came with the 706 I purchased... Havnt learned the Manual one yet but will need to soon :tongue_smilie:

Congrats on the contact DX does bite HARD and a good antenna, vertical wire will work the long distance DX, many ops over look a vertical but if a tall yagi can not be installed a vertical is the next best thing for long distance DX.

I run a Butternut HF9V and it's an awesome antenna. Not a bad DXer on 40 either.

Congratulations! Senegal is not an easy catch even for me with nothing between here and there but open water. Not too many on the air there.

great. i had my mind pretty much settled on a hexagonal beam and now you've got me researching again.....
half the cost of the hex tho, and more coverage to boot...hmmmmmmm

It is hard to beat a yagi at height, even 1/2 wl above ground works good dx.

Also there is gain with a yagi and let's not over look direction and rejection.

Both the yagi and the vertical has it's advantages, and dis advantages.

Vert is less expensive and does work well for DX.

Yagi is more expensive with the cost of the tower, rotor and other parts needed for correct install.

With the conditions as good as they are on the lower bands, 17 meters and down a good dipole will work great also.

On HF i have a dipole at 30 feet, a Gap Titan DX veticle that i just took down, and a cuschcraft MA5B at 35ish feet.

I would never trade my beam in, however small and "mini" it may be, it plain works and gets out, for the lower bands i use a dipole, and i did use the vertical, the only advantage of the vertical was wider coverage in one antenna, but hands down i prefer my beam where usable, and wires after that, if you have the space use it, it wont let you down.
