Well I did all the usual checks coax, grounding, Antenna, all connections tight. Checked power supply voltage. Checked SWR, Perfect! went into the radio and did the Diag test voltage pass,RF out pass,Antenna Pass.
One week later Last night Saturday and NO OUT-PUT at all. No warning signs at all. I have my Uniden pro 510XL in the same location now for a test. I also used my 2950 last night for a while with no problems. Could it be a bad batch from uniden. Who knows. I did read on another forum of bad soldering on the first radios. I not getting another. Will use the 510 as a test for a while.:crying:

The problem is static build up taking out the cheap weak final they decided to use. I have a 980 myself and it was burning up finals like crazy also until i checked the gate voltage and found from factory it was set at 5.7v. The gate voltage should be at 3.7-3.8 volts and no more. After adjusting it to the correct setting no more problems for me and everything stays cool now. I would check the gate voltage.

I guess I could get instructions and figure out how to adjust. Or buy from a CB shop and hope he knows what he is doing. The reason I bought from a store was low price, free shipping, and the radio would not be hacked. I guess quality control isn't doing a good job with the teck's at the factory.

I wonder if it were overkill grounded would it have survived. In my mobile, it's grounded by the double din brackets on both sides of its chassis fairly well. That is, if static is the real culprit for it dying on you.

Aluminum antenna vs fiberglass Imax 2000 and static build up. My good friend just put up an maco V5000 and his reason was that he thinks his Imax is a Radio killer. Killed his galaxy base and several mobil radios.I think 3 mobil radios. He has a tower and has had the thing tested with an antenna anaylizer more than once and has come to the point of an antenna change. I know we have had a lot of electrical storms. And my son warned me that with the conditions we now have that all electronics, cell phones ,cars, computers etc are at risk.

Your friend could of saved some money by un-hooking his coax when a storm comes or put an antenna switch with multiple gates and just hit the switch? I agree on the gate voltage, Cobra 200's had a similiar issue too.
