The last year or so I have been thinking of doing some YouTube videos in the shop. I tried recording with several different cheap cams but never liked what I saw. I am a bit camera shy and my voice sounds terrible to me. So I been putting it off.

Friday I drove up to Pikeville and purchased a second signal generator from a ham there. I had put an add on QTH. The SM is a HP 8640B and I knew it would be a repair job. So paid the asking price of 100 bucks and drove home.

The unit was a bit dirty and had set on a shelf for 2 years. It was thought to had a power supply problem. After downloading the manual and making a few checks I found the power switch was faulty. Removed the power switch and drilled out the rivets and was able to repair it. I then started to address the other problems I was now able to see.

While checking controls the FM switch broke off.
Also the front range select gear was cracked.
There was no output.
Frequency counter did not show correct frequency.

I fixed the gear and the switch. Found the front range selector disk was missing a contact finger. Made one from a relay blade. That fixed most of the issues.

Any way I uploaded my first 2 videos ever. I used my android phone and that was not an easy task. Went to Best Buy today and bought a Sony HDR-CX240. I will try it out in the next few days.

I am new to the YouTube thing so go easy on me. I have a lot to learn. But maybe the quality will be better.
Here are the two vids from my phone in all my redneck glory......
And yes there are mistakes lol.

I will say the 8640b is a super signal generator. Very stable, easy to use and easy to take apart.

I will be doing a tear down of this unit and recording with my new cam. If all goes right I may be doing a lot more YT vids.
