Neads a change of underwear

Yeah, 'bout the worst place to be in a tornado - is in a car. Worst. They often get picked up and thrown around. After this happens about a dozen times or more, the car turns into a garbage compactor and anything in the vehicle has been compressed.

I told a Nebraska State trooper - while storm spotting - that if there was a tornado in the blob of a storm coming our way, that we would need to abandon the vehicles and get into the ditch. Tornadic winds move over the surface of the ground. Should have seen the look in his face; it was a mirror of my own . . . I had to explain to him that our chances would be much better that way . . .

That is Crazy..

I have been in 80 to 100 mph winds..
Nothing like that though..

Another good place ( if and only if you have the time to do so & this is if you are stuck outside without the ability to get to a secure basement or underground structure ) is to go to a major highway over pass..get out of your car/truck/motorcycle and quickly run up under the passage way where the under carriage of bridge starts to angle down to lower street...Wedge yourself under in center section.

It is likely as safe an area you can find if stuck outside on the street
(unless you can get to a safe and secure basement or storm structure)

You may be giving bad advice on the overpass suggestion.
Not flaming you, just arguing against it.

That overpass thingy isn't all that safe. You may remove one aspect of being exposed to weather, but you will increase the likelihood of danger from others with the same idea. You may know how to do all this safely, but do you want to risk that others who may be more 'excited' about the situation might react? I tend to be more afraid of people than weather, they are more unpredictable. And then, it could be your best option.
