im hoping someone can answer my questions, and/or give me some advice on where to pull power from for my LED project.

what i want to do is use 4 white LED's to light the S-meter in my 148GTL. (im using a galaxy style meter, so there is room. this radio is custom)

i also want to use 4 red LED's that will light the S-meter up in red on TX.

im thinking of using pins 6 and 8 of the MB3756 to power each set of LED's.
one is RX only voltage, and one is TX only voltage.

each of these arrays of LED's will pull about 60mA, and im wondering if thats too much to draw from this source. (the MB3756)

im hoping that someone can look at a schematic for me, and tell me if this will work, or if im drawing too much current away from circuits that need it.

if this wont work, any ideas on how i can do it?
here is a link to a schematic:

thanks for any help or advice,

4 of each is extreme over-kill. You'll only need 1 of each to do the job. If you're worried about uneven illumination, just use a fine-grade emery cloth or very fine nail file to score up the clear surface of the high-brightness LED. That will diffuse the light giving even illumination.

DO NOT use the PLL chip pins to power your LED's. Instead, use the 8-volt source that powers the transmit predriver to build a control circuit, and use that circuit to switch the main 8-volt regulator output to the proper LED for TX and RX.

thanks DTB,

im not planning on powering the LED's from the PLL chip (MB8719); im planning on powering them from the voltage regulator. (MB3756)

im thinking we might be misunderstanding eachother a bit here.

pins 6 and 8 of the voltage regulator are RX only and TX only voltages.

if i can get away with less LED's i will.

thanks for the tip on the scuffing of the LED!

so, do you think the voltage reg. is a safe source?

what about the RX/TX light?
i will not be using it in this radio.

thanks for the help,
LC
