I have a TUG8 D104. It's always been a great. I pulled it out the other day to use it a lil and I noticed it just doesn't swing on the meter like it used to. I made contact with a friend 20 miles away and he said it sounded pretty bad. I tried another head on it and it was no better. I also tried the head off this mic on another base and it sounded fine??? I wonder if a cap or transistor is bad? If so where do I start?

Thanx

Ok the tug8 isn't like the later tug9. The tug8 doesn't have the rod that runs down the tube. The ptt switch on the tug8 is in the tube just below where the head screws on.. I sprayed it good and although the action is a lil better it still doesn't have much audio??? Could it be one if the two transistors in the bottom or that 25v cap?

I suppose then it's left to checking and replacing defective parts, vom and capacitance testers required unless you just change out things without regard to their status.

See... I'm having the same problem except that its a non amplified tug8. The mic has like hardly any audio at all. I even put it on my magnum with the talk back all the way up and can hardly hear it. And I noticed that it dosent swing my meter much at all either. But I put my 636 back on it and my talk back blows me outta my room and my meter swings like it should. Anything I could do to a non amlified D-104?
