I have a RCI 2990dx from a widow who husband owned this radio, which I am suppose to sell for her, when I checked it, the sound from the speaker does not sound clear, it sounds like the speaker is ripped, I hooked up an external speaker, I got the exact same results, very hard to understand anyone because of the poor sound quality.....evidently something is wrong here, any suggestions ?
Any one else ever have this problem ? Other than that it produces full output......

Thanks for any help.....

am and was it on frequency? what is a real scratchy sound that was really loud when you adjusted the volume? if it was some contact cleaner from the parts store sprayed on the controls may help. sometime they are sealed up and you cant get any in there so you may have to drill a small hole in the rear or somthing but more often than not you dont have to worry about that. just spray it good and turn it, it will clear up.

2990dx problem

The radio is on frequency, the probelm is on AM, it sounds like there is no AGC, and the receiver is having an extremely hard time adjusting for fluctating signals. I have adjusted the receiver per the manual, it may have helped a bit, but it sounds bad. S meter reading are normal, an external speaker sounds the same, maybe someone did sit in his driveway and take out the front end ?
