I have an output the 2.5 watts. What can i do to have 4 or 5 watts output. Where or what is the potentometer for the output.

well you're not likely to find too much info on this radio, and that is because it's not a very highly prized CB radio.

you're not going to be able to boost performance much, and certainly not enough to make a difference to anyone listening to you.
although you do stand a good chance of making it sound like crap if you remove the AMC.

that being said, it is your radio, and if you want to tinker with it, that is up to you.

for transmit power, adjust T11, and L3.
do not adjust them for max deadkey.
you must adjust them using a modulated signal, like a tone through the mic, or saying "ahhh" into it while peaking the adjustments.

again, you're not going to see too much improvement, and to make a 1 S-unit difference on someone else's meter, you would have to step up to 10 watts from 2.5.

the modulation limiter is Q12, and if you decide to try removing it to see how it sounds, i highly recommend that you unsolder and remove the part completely rather than just cutting it out.
this way, if the radio sounds like crap after removing it, you can put it back in.

best of luck,
LC

How does the signal look on the oscilloscope? What does the swing look like?
If you have 2.5 watts and it swings to five watts or better you are in good shape as long as there is no distortion.

i have the 492 and a 434 which is about the same radios and they dead key about 3 watts and swing to about 10. that was doing a lot of work to get them to that point.. good sounding little AM radios just not a big swinger.

c'mon now Tallman.

Do you really think this guy owns an oscilloscope?
something tells me that if you are looking for mod info on a TRC492, you don't do a lot of radio work.
(not trying to be insulting handyman)
