Does anyone have anything on this radio? I need to replace some 12 volt lamps so I can see what frequency its on again, and might aswell make any improvments I can to it while its open.

Yes I know its an older set.

I have 3 of them the lamps are a bear to replace and when you do put a resistor in line to exstend the life .....

There are no mods for the radio it is a crystal plexer and adding crystals is not worth your time. I have a tone board in mine you get ONE tone thats it .... 30 KHZ spacing no 15 khz in the 3 I have.

Over all it is built like a tank mine was bought about 1974 ..... need I say more ....

There was that one, and also a mod for 15khz instead of 30khz channel spacing.

I read some of this on eham.

This radio is a crystalplexer not a PLL And it covers 146-148 ONLY I have had mine more than 30 years it was used untill 2004 when In bought a ft-7800.
Crystals are $20-$30 EACH you can buy a FT-1900r for $130 All set up with tone and easy to progtam to what you need The IC-230 STOCK again is a nice radio but NOT worth the time to do any mod other than change the bulbs .....

ALSO older ICOMS like the IC230 and IC22 the wires dry out and crack after 30 years ....

Its just not a good investement of time or money other than changing lamps ...
