What do you all think about the new 2950dx ?.....
How does it do compared to the older version ?....
Has there been any problems with this one ?...
Looking for info guys thanks....

The only reason I never bought a 2950DX is because the Magnum 257 HP is better. They both have a bit of white noise in the receive, but the 257 has a speech processor/compressor for SSB/AM - which makes it a cut above for better transmit modulation. The 2950DX can be used on 12m as well as 10m and 11m - while the 257 can only go as low as 25.165mhz. Depends on your needs.

heres a few links to reviews on the 2950DX .

and one on the 2970DX from QST (just a high powered 2950dx) from a technical ham point of view .

if i were gonna get a new export the 2950dx would top my list , but id consider the omega-force 45hp before id drop the cash for either . id only consider the 257 if space was really tight , but if minimum size is a priority the 257hp would be my only consideration for a small export .

keep in mind the 29xx radios arnt built or advertised to be big audio monsters on AM , but to excel on SSB and stay on frequency . ive read mixed comments about the white noise issue with them being fixed at the factory so i look forward to what owners of newer radios have to say about that . i hope the new black display ones no longer have that issue . there is a mod to fix it , but my rational is a new radio shouldn't have to be fixed straight out of the box .

Hi Rob,
There are clones of the 257 that do go down to 12m now and with most of the 257 processor shortcomings resolved. 50w from 2 IRF520's and a fan on the heatsink. Unfortunately they do cost a little more than a 257!
cheers,
Dave

Anyone heard of this thing being available in the states?

yeticomnz.com

$475NZD is approx $360 US, plus shipping from NZ which lets say for arguments sake is $20 making this $380 delivered.

Not a terrible price considering what the radio has to offer.

Enough of a reason for me to call up Sam Lewis @ RF Limited - and see what it takes to modify the 257 to get 12m.

If I remember, I will give him a call tomorrow . . .
