We'll have to see if they can get all the digital features to work without any bugs. The diagnostic feature definitely sparked my interest.

Hopefully I can get my hands on one soon and give you the low down!

Available October 2010!
In commemoration of their 50th Anniversary, Cobra introduces the all new Cobra 29 LX LE CB radio. The radio features a completely new design unlike anything currently available from Cobra and a long list of impressive features. The most noticeable feature is the stunning, multi-color digital display. Covering the majority of the radio's face, the display offers information on the current channel, transmission and reception strength, SWR levels and all other major CB operations. The display can be easily seen at night, and can be set to one of four customizable colors.
In addition to the new display, the Cobra 29 LXLE includes a host of impressive features. Weather stations, scanning and alerts keep you informed of current conditions and any sever weather situations that exist. New to the Cobra 29 line, channel scanning lets you actively scan all 40 frequencies for activity. The Radio Check Diagnostic feature provides information on RF power, antenna condition and battery voltage. Other features include a PA (Public Address) mode, antenna warning indicator, delta tune, RF gain, talk back, channel memory, dynamike instant channel 9/19 and more. If you want a feature packed CB radio with an impressive design and stunning display, the Cobra 29 LX LE is a great choice.

As bad as I hate to say this, I actually like the way that radio looks.

Hope it's decent.

i think it looks awesome!! i hope it performs as well as the cobra 29, at least. upgrades like mosfets and rfx75's can come later. maybe it will not be a flop as cobra's 150 and 200 models were.

if they could make a 148 that would stay on frequency and have that display show a 6 digit FC it would be more interesting .

if it really is "a completely new design unlike anything currently available from Cobra" i wonder how the tx and rx will be . hopefully closer to the old side mic radios .

It has a cool display and a host a nice features which would come in handy, but here is the problem-it has to be a SMT board to have that face and all the features included and that will cause a lot of headaches for techs and anyone who wants to mod it. I will be just like any other SMT board radio and only certain things can be done to it and most of it will have to be done by a tech and any and all repairs will have to go to some authorized repair center and out of warranty repairs will be a nightmare. So it is a cool looking radio and I will probably buy one but I would like to see the inside of the radio to get a better opinion of just how mod and repair friendly it will be and can imagine how expensive the front display would be if it went out, there is no more just replacing a meter or heating up solder joint to get a channel segment back, the whole damn thing would need to be replaced and if it blanked out and your out of warranty you might as well through it in the trash. We will have to see. I just went to the cbradiomagazine.com and read the advertisement at the bottom and it says that it uses the same size chasis as the 29 classic and all the same accesories( I am assuming they are talking bracket, mic, powercord) but nowhere does it say they are going to use the same pcb board, and I will eat my hat if they can pack all those features using the regular 29 pcb and tag boards to support the scan, swr, voltage and weather features and multicolor display. It will most likely use a totally different pcb and will be hard to deal with as I described above.

Looks like yet another Cobra failure in the making. We'll see how Chinese sweat shops punch these out. I guess the term "old school" is being run out of town.

This Radio will be available sometime in September

Looks tacky as hell.

AM only?

No thanks.

You'd think they'd at least try to borrow on commercial radio design.

Make basically an 11m copy of the Yaesu FT2800m or something.

cobra 29's have always been am only. its a truck drivers radio, they dont need sideband.
