Quote:
A coil antenna is a coil antenna, performance wise you wont see any noticeable difference

True as long as they are built to the same specs. Coil diameter and spacing can improve coil "Q" and provide some signal improvement.
WOW, thats a nice looking antenna, i will say this, mr coily has always impressed me with his antennas, so i will not doubt it is a great performer on the airwaves, good luck coily .
westcoast418, you have just condemed and run down one of the best selling and best performing antennas on the market. You must have been trying to tune a 9 inch single 10k on the back bumper of a motor home. 98% of the 10K owners will tell you that a 10K antenna is the easiest antenna they ever owned to tune. Thats why I build 6 different length shanks and two coils. I don't know which one you was trying to tune or where you was mounting it but the 10K is to be known to have very little reflect. Kale
Good afternoon,I just installed a brand new coil antenna,I have to say after many tests and radio checks it performs better than any other coil i own The swr was perfect 1.0.1 -1.1.1across the entire band! You guys may want to go check out his new antennas! They are very nice high quality and built very well with solid shafts still nice and light really nice antenna.I give it a A++ Here is his link www.mrcoily.com
westcoast418, You're late. There has been all kinds of hams come to this forum and many other forums with their "tests". They have argued about the 102 antenna being the only true 1/4 wave antenna and nit picken crap like that. You're going to go with what you run. I'm not running down any antenna but these tests don't mean all that much. The 10K is mostly a long distance antenna. I don't mean 15 to 20 miles. I mean 40 to 60 miles. I have a new antenna on the market now that I was talking 60 miles on the other morning on a 200 watt two pill. I'm not going to argue with you about any of these tests. The best test is in the real world. 10K has a good DX contest record for one. Kale
Kale sells more antennas in a week then Mr COily probally does in 3 months. Your not going to sell more Mr coily's by trying to say their better on here.
CW Morse, I guess I missed the boat in antenna building. For the time ,work and trouble it would be cheaper in the long run to buy one that is already built. $75 isn't very much to pay for one that is already built is it? Kale
westcoast418, if you are testing the 27" 10K on the rooftop, you are testing the wrong antenna for that vehicle. The 27" 10K is designed for tool box set ups. It will make a difference. If you are going to test a 10K on the rooftop, it needs to be no longer than a 22"shaft. Kale
this is nutts you say u can't tune in a 10k? my son of 8 years old tuned in a 10k on his bike and i did not help that much just showed him how the MFJ worked... maybe i'll send him your way.. and one other thing i talked to him over 20 miles and the kid was bearfoot!!! i'll show u smoe pic's
