FlexRadio has released details about the new Flex 6000 transceiver. It's game changing design and architecture is sure to create a lot of buzz and interest in the ham community.

This completely new implementation and design of an HF/VHF transceiver is sure to even capture the attention of the younger, more tech-savy generation. Features like integrated, 1GB ethernet and internet connectivity, dual USB ports, and built in panadapter and slice capability certainly are on the cutting edge of current design concepts.

I can't even begin to describe all of the capabilities and design concepts, so I've included the FlexRadio 6000 brochure.

Enjoy!

I'll share one interesting initial reaction that I have to this rig:

The Elecraft K3 is viewed by many as one of the best transceivers on the market. Elecraft is viewed by many as a very progressive thinking ham radio company. Since I became interested in the K3 and joined the Elecraft community (via forums, the Elecraft reflector, etc.), I've often seen people start discussions about how Elecraft should incorporate networking features into the K3. So far, those discussions haven't resulted in much.

Forget all of the transceiver "stuff" for a moment and take a look at what Flex has done just with networking functionality on this radio. IMO, they've set out to accomplish what many other ham radio companies either can't do, or are reluctant to do.

Imagine this: A W9WDX club Flex 6000 transceiver that any club member can use from anywhere in the world over the internet using any mode desired. How about a couple of club members that share their Flex 6000's with each other over the internet?

Sound interesting? It does to me. We have to expand our mind to the possibilities available when we incorporate modern networking technologies. This is how we keep ham radio relevant.

Yep, $1,800 down payment and the rest due upon actual shipment. Sometime
around Christmas! (the deposit is refundable BEFORE ship date). I would be interested
in the $4000 model, if I had the bucks for it. It only supports 4 Slice receivers instead
of the 8 that the higher priced model has!
Reading the product brochure, almost makes my head swim! Lots of features that I'm not even sure I would ever need or want! But, my inner geek, keeps saying to
find the money!! Good thing I know what my actual finances are!
Hope they build an even lower end model along the lines of the 1500. Then, I might be able to afford one. ( I already have a 1500 and it is a blast to use)

Thank you for the brochure.

The specs are insane and amazing!
IMO It should cover more then 2m.

Hell add rx from. Zero mhz - 3ghz and tack on $1k more.

Hope HRO gets one in to play with.

Flex 6000 series, My concern

I have a Flex 5000 and an Elecraft K3. Here is my concern with the Flex Radios: because they do not have roofing filters, and have a wide open front end, strong signals up and down the band can distort reception, especially when one or both of the noise blankers is engaged. Image signals have also been a problem. Please Flex, assure me these problems have been addressed in the new Flex 6000 series.
