So I've been running a Wilson 5000 mag mount on the trunk of my company car for 6 years now. Just got a new vehicle so I decided to go with a trunk mount that was a smaller profile then the Wilson. I ordered a new K40 off E-Bay and it arrived this morning.
I then spend about an hour mounting it to the trunk, fishing the coax behind the rear seat and along the right side of the car hidden away. Even zip tied it all up nice and neat. So next I mount the stinger and go to do the quick 1/4 turn disconnect to test it out. The coil just turns and spins, it never tightens up like it should and it won't detach. It's a defective piece of junk. So I send the E-Bay store an e-mail and they will take care of it but it sucks because I now have to remove it from the car all over.
I get on the K40 web site and call their 1-800 number listed on their site and on the paperwork with the antenna. This person tells me they sold the rights to the antenna's to a company called DAS. I call DAS and the lady transfers me to "tech support" and I get a recording and leave a message. So far no call back or anything.
While still on the K40 web site I see a dealer locator tab so I click it. I find out there are two local K40 dealers so heck maybe they can do a warranty swap. I call both of them only to find out neither stock cb antennas, the one place has never even ordered one and the other didn't know K40 made cb antennas. They are all about custom installed remote radar detectors and laser shifters.
At this point I might just clean up the Wilson and slap it back on the trunk. I'll see how the E-Bay store plans on resolving this first I guess. Sure wish there was a quality trunk mount antenna made. Obviously the glory days of the K40 antenna are gone for good. I don't hear good things about new Wilson antennas either.
