New Uniden Radios

nonsense, they are opting for a cheaper means of manufacturing. I think Uniden is confused about who really buys the majority of the radios they made. They are trying to target average joe in a car, meanwhile truckers were the ones who were the biggest buyers. Truckers don't care about all the pretty stuff, they want performance.

I plan on Gettin a 687 and a 787.
But the noose is getting tighter around being able to modify a radio
Or say I say that my 959 has spoiled me performance wise. The Europeon market will probably be the driving force in the years to come. Multiple country use with multiple bands and most likely be locked into a set of frequencies for the country the radios are slated for.

Then why the echo, talk back, roger beep and other worthless stuff on radios? I agree performance should be forefront in any radio purchase. The CB market is dyeing slowly and the only thing that can save is it decent equipment at good prices. The over seas market will drive the design and mfg for years to come.

I think that most people, truckers and average Joes, want a combination of performance, styling, and features. But I think the styling and features are more of a catch in the market. That is what makes many of the export radios so popular. Many have the big meters, color changing Christmas lighting, echo, etc.

I don't think the 680s are that bad. I had one that was tuned by DTB. I gave it to my buddy and hooked it up in his truck. When he took a drive to test it out, I thought it sounded very good. It was clean and sounded very full. The receiver wasn't the best, but wasn't the worst either.

I like my radios to be like a sexy sports car. Chrome, good looks, nice lay out, more horses under the hood and better handling than you normally are accustomed to. Did I say good looks?!

I bought a new PC 787. It came this afternoon. I like the looks, gets favorable audio with stock microphone. Decent little rig for what it is. I like the weather channels.

My superstar pistol grip microphone livens it up.

Most if not all new radios will have MOSFET finals as that is where the technology is headed.

Biggest bummer so far...

It's hard to change channels. The knob is in the center of the radio between the mic plug and the mic gain control. Your knuckles hit the plug and mic pot.

It needs a round knurled channel knob. I'm going to try and source a better knob.

Not ergonomic at all.

Mmmmmm....

I was wanting to see what Simon thought about it first. It kinda looks a little 980ish to me. It looks appealing.

I was a tad demoralized by the Anytone, CRE crap that polluted my shack. I'm starting to feel better now.
