Oddball question

I like to listen in on the airband when I don't hear anything else on the amateur bands(8.942 here BTW).

Here's my question. I accidentally pressed the PTT and froze the buttons on the face of my FT-857D. After shutting it off and on a few times, the buttons functioned again. Was I lucky not to damage my radio?

Thanks in advance.

What is 8.942? Long haul SSB aero frequency? Is your FT-857 unlocked to allow TX everywhere? If that is the case it was probably a case of extremely high SWR and stray RF that locked up the radio. I highly suggest refraining from hitting the PTT button as even though the 857 has good SWR protection it can be risky.

Thanks for the reply Cap. Yeh long haul aero frequency.

Yah, I didn't too it deliberately. My 2m meter rig is side by side with the FT857 and I picked up and talked into the wrong mike. I'm probably going to delete this frequency from memory.

Yeh, my rig is modded to tx everywhere. It was that way when I got it.
