Alrighty then,
I wired an Astatic 636 mic for the Omega. The stock mic wouldn't allow me to open the mic gain past about 8 or 9 o'clock. This led to subpar performance while mobile. With the 636 I can open the mic gain wide open without any of the truck or pickup noise. The radio is swinging about 40w in the mtx mode and just over 30w in the standard mode. Excellent reports from the locals with nothing but clean and loud, and it drives my DaveMade extremely well. The channel selector knob absolutely SUCKS!!!!!, I mean just plain poor design - when ya' change channels going down the road, nine times out of ten you end up going one or MORE channels further than intended, was the same on the first Omega. Other than that a very loud radio on am. I have not tried it on sideband yet. Like I stated before, the rx is the noisiest (bar none) of any radio I have ever had, almost unbearable... But the am modulation makes up for the terrible rx noise. The combination of this radio and my DaveMade 2x8, I am now getting my name called on a consistent basis on the Super Bowl, (I know probably just lucky), but it still makes ya' feel kinda' special . I can only dream what it would be like to have a 5 driving 16???
