Alrighty then,

I wired an Astatic 636 mic for the Omega. The stock mic wouldn't allow me to open the mic gain past about 8 or 9 o'clock. This led to subpar performance while mobile. With the 636 I can open the mic gain wide open without any of the truck or pickup noise. The radio is swinging about 40w in the mtx mode and just over 30w in the standard mode. Excellent reports from the locals with nothing but clean and loud, and it drives my DaveMade extremely well. The channel selector knob absolutely SUCKS!!!!!, I mean just plain poor design - when ya' change channels going down the road, nine times out of ten you end up going one or MORE channels further than intended, was the same on the first Omega. Other than that a very loud radio on am. I have not tried it on sideband yet. Like I stated before, the rx is the noisiest (bar none) of any radio I have ever had, almost unbearable... But the am modulation makes up for the terrible rx noise. The combination of this radio and my DaveMade 2x8, I am now getting my name called on a consistent basis on the Super Bowl, (I know probably just lucky), but it still makes ya' feel kinda' special . I can only dream what it would be like to have a 5 driving 16???

Wow! I am amazed at how Quiet mine is, but mine is inside the house! I haven't tried it mobile, I guess there's a reason they sell those power cord filters! I was dissapointed in all the knobs, they feel mushy to the touch, Glad you liked the transmit of it Hossless

Ya Gotta Love RF

Warthog, mine isn't too noisy in the house either. But picks up everything in the big truck and pickup, maybe poor filtering? As far as the knobs, the worst, especially the channel selector...

Nightrider, whew - I'd like to cruise through ChiTown with a 10pill driving a 32pill DaveMade. But if I did that, none of those big scrappers 'round ChiTown would be able to talk

The Omega really does have some clean loud audio with the 636 and mic gain wide open.

jvergot, this thread is from 2004 so I doubt he even still owns that radio.

Even if he does that version of the Omegaforce has been out of production for years. The current model is the HP version that has the RFX-75 unit on the back, good for 80 watts. The version in this thread is probably the old school dual 1969 final radio, 30-40 watts.

All that said an Omegaforce HP will drive a Fatboy with 1446 finals pretty hard. You might have to back the variable down or try to find an old version Omega used that does less power.
