I fellow I know that works in the TV broadcasting business in Halifax and has a bunch of 1 Kw power amp modules removed from some analog Larcan TV transmitters that were switched off the end of August this year when we went to the digital broadcast system. He is offering them for $370 each plus shipping. Not a bad price really when you look at the going price for a Mirage 150 watt amp for $390 that still needs a power supply. These modules have a self contained 1 Kw amplifier with on board bias circuit and heat sinks. You just need to add a 50 volt power supply and some form of T/R switching.Cooling fans would be a good idea for high duty cycle modes. These were used on channel 3 and require NO mods whatsoever to operate on 6m. I asked him to hold one for me until after Christmas. It should make a nice winter project along with either making or looking for a decent 50 volt 40 amp power supply. Switching type 50 volt supplies appear on Ebay often for a decent price. I figure 1 Kw fed through about 150 feet of LDF4-50 heliax to my six element yagi at 72 feet should make for a decent signal. :D

Here is a link to the exact same power modules Warren is offering for sale. This is NOT his site but the units are identical to what he has and again, they do NOT require any frequency mods to operate with full output on 6m due to the wideband nature of the VHF-Lo band transmitter they came from.

twenty amps @ 50 watts is awesome

:blink:Twenty amps @ 50 watts? Man talk about an inefficient amplifier. You meant 20 amps at 50 VOLTS right? The PSU would probably need close to 40 amps to allow for peak power, headroom, and efficiency. I plan to keep an eye on Ebay while also looking for parts and will go whichever way I can get a power supply first.

Yup.

CK: Please forward to me your friends info also...
Sounds like excellent package.
From the info you supplied on these modules they will operate SSB in the 50.1-50.2 range, As-is correct?...
PS and TR switching is the easy stuff to work out.

Not looking to run a full Gallon...5-600w would be more than adequate for my needs!:thumbup1:...With 5 element wide space at 45ft should serve me well!

I came across an old GLA-1000B for almost nothing( for GI7B conversion to 6m) This module would be much easier... And have some Headroom:thumbup:
I could then just do another GI7 HF swap and not have to gut the whole deck!
Many Thanks
All the Best
BJ
