ive noticed that most older fiberglass antennas dont seem to age very well as in the older they are longer they have been up the swrs seem to go up. Why is that?

Run a roll tap at each section end that has threads. Run a die over the stud portion. Clean and oil all threads. Clean exposed metal (SO-239) connector with a wire brush. Use some SprayVar on the fiberglass portion; not paint. Assemble. Tune. Then; have a Coke and a smile . . .

Might also check the coax end for water intrusion too.

Instead of oil I suggest vasoline I use this on my anteannas , tower, and even on bolts for my ATV's and drtbikes. A good friend of mine thats a fabricator got me onto this meathod years back and now its habbit and works great if disasembling has to happen in the future.
;)

I still having issues. It is a blue Big Stick. I took the base apart and there is a small coil and capacitor in the bottom. Does anyone know what value it is?
