I have a Messenger 123A that id like to rewire for a power mic. has anyone ever wired in a mic jack on one to accept any other mic besides a stock mic? Ive always thought it was pretty silly of Johnson to hard wire the stock mic into the radio, LOL!

if i remember right the problem for putting a mike jack on one was the way the cover goes on and off. its been 30 years since i had one. the 123 i had had a turner +3 hardwired on it. one time on an old courier i seen the mike had a plug mounted outside of radio so mike could hook up but was not a standard mike plug. where there is a will there is a way. also i dont think a 4 pronged plug wont work seems like it takes 5 or 6 wires for the mike to work. 73s midnight special

Then mod it to accept a 5 or 6 pin mic plug. If there's room it should be a pretty easy job. THen you won't have to hard wire a mic ever time you want to try a different one.

The black and the white face Johnson's were the first radios I talked on....they were my brothers....he had D-104s hooked up to them....be careful wiring up a mic to a tube radio.....they bite.

ZMAN -

The stock mike in the 123A has three wires: White (audio), Shield (ground), and Yellow (transmit). To install a standard 4-pin jack, connect the shield to pin 1, White to pin 2, and yellow to pin 3. Then any mike with a 4-pin connector wired for Cobra, Uniden, Galaxy, etc. will be a plug-in. When you remove the stock mike, there is a ferrite bead on the white lead. Be sure it's in there when you install the new jack. 73s.

I remember back in those days supposedly the white face johnson was the best. i remember owners made it a point to say they had a white face johnson.
