Gentlemen,

Have not posted in a while. Been happy for years with current setups and resisted the urge to mess with what works. I recently purchased a 2010 Dodge Charger. Right now I am just using a 10 year old Little Wil on the center of the trunk. Planning on putting the new antenna on the trunk lip center with one of the trunk lip mounts. One my choices are Wilson 1000, K40, or NMO mount with commercial 10-11 antenna. I just run barefoot in the auto. Battery is in the trunk area. May add a trucker style amp. I mainly just talk to locals on the road. I live 13 miles out of town. Can it town easily with barefoot with a Starduster on base at home.

Thanks all,

Thanks binrat. The Little Wil I am using works great. It is an older one. I had tuned it swapping it on multiple vehicles, so if the ground plane is decent you get an SWR well below 2.0. Looking for a better antenna to mount. All opinions welcome and appreciated.

Or a Sirio trucker style performer 5000. That or mount on roof. But the Sirio 5k trucker antenna may require a bit heavier duty mount than just a trunk lip mount. JMHO. Just not enough surface area of grabbing. Maybe I am totally wrong but it would seem that any decent 11 meter antenna that is of any height will require a good mount as well. This is JMO.

I used my Sirio 5k performer and the PL-145 mag mount for a long time with a magnaforce 350hd (2 x 2879's), and made many contacts around the world while traveling up and down the east coast and semi Mid-West. Radios used were the magnum 257hp and then my fav. The optima mk3. I couldn't get a triple or quad mag mount up due to the darn ridges running the length of the top of the work van. And I tried even to fab one! Just didn't work out. But I will say with some good coax (LMR240) and the PL145 mag mount coupled with the base coil loaded Sirio performer 5k, worked very well for me. I was used to AM until I found SSB and saw the light LOL!! At any rate, NB posted a great setup as well. Just be careful of the newer Wilson antennas. A couple years it has been, but they had some bad QC issues that hopefully got worked out!!
