I think most of us are familiar with the superstar 452 power mics, but this is an oldie with all through hole components. Fully aware that it's a simple rebadge but knowing it was older, with a different name, and made in Taiwan I just had to grab it because I have sort of a thing for old mics. For starters it's new old stock so the seller claimed and it shows to be so, still in the package with a user manual and the original bubble around the connector.

Once opening the clamshell I knew it would be slightly different to the superstar 452 recently acquired and although similar it was also very different. The plastic feels more solid, not so disposable so to say and the print is much cleaner/more neat. The cord supplied is like that of the old telex 56 with the heavy cord, no skimping on the copper either. Once opened we can see the insides and what a nice sight to see healthy through hole components populating the board that also has true leaded solder flowed all throughout. The slider feels smooth but with resistance without the feeling of a cheap kids toy like is found in the modern version. So with battery installed and to the mic tester is when it was obvious that this wasn't the same animal we find today. The sound was far beyond the superstar immediately and without the inherent squeal that was expected. It couldn't stop there, the test session went to the cobra 29 so that I could hear it through the monitor radio.... and let's say this mic sounds phenomenal for a cb mic. It sounds so good that the ec-2018 just got downgraded a notch by it's Taiwanese opponent. I'm not saying this is the cb radio mana of today but this thing sounds absolutely amazing compared to the dozens of mics currently put away in the stash.

Quality is what I found in what is considered a cheap throw away mic, sounding so good I had to write a post about it. If you find one and I don't beat you to it, get it because I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's a keeper!

Nice find ! I got 2 of the SS versions a couple of weeks ago, not impressed with the quality at all.

Been using a vintage Telex RK-56 for a few days now, yes I like it.

Bought a NOS Cobra power mic in same style package a few minutes ago.....Screenshot_20220127-183608_Mercari.jpg

I have one of those Cobra mics, as well as a handful of the blue cased version that runs a condenser head. I have often wondered when they were made, as I can find next to nothing on them online. Even when searching the board numbers.
