I had one, " loaned" it to my uncle to use years ago. It vanished into the abyss at some point.Who is currently running a vintage radio as their base? Would love to see a pic.
Here's mine. This Royce 619 was gifted to me a couple of Christmases ago by a good friend. It once belonged to his dad.

Thanks! I've had it a while (NIB) and just opened the box last month, around Thanksgiving. I was doing some re-arranging in the closet and re-discovered it. I started thinking: "I'm 68 now, so what the heck am I waiting for?" ... so I opened the box, peeled the plastic from around the radio and set it up (it'll need a few ecaps, but after a minute or two it settles down). That’s a beauty.
A "family abyss" is the worst kind of abyss. You have to see 'em on holidays, etc. for most your life without saying much. A "Friendly Abyss" is a little different. You can cut 'em outta your life and hate their guts with impunity.I had one, " loaned" it to my uncle to use years ago. It vanished into the abyss at some point.

I have asked several times over the years, I usually get a chuckle and " It is somewhere in the garage in all that mess"A "family abyss" is the worst kind of abyss. HOA rules (trust me, long story) prevent me from having a base antenna, otherwise I'd be using the CP 2000 right now.
There's an entire forum on eHam dedicated to helping HOA prisoners get stealthy, effective antennas up and on the air. Lots of ideas there: https://www.eham.net/forum/indexHOA rules (trust me, long story) prevent me from having a base antenna, otherwise I'd be using the CP 2000 right now.
I have thought about it. Issue there is the solar panels on the roof with their inverters throwing out noise.Good Afternoon TM 86
How are you today? Have you thought about a dipole mounted in the attic? I have the same HOA rules (no outside antennas), but the dipole in the attic works well for what it is. I have talked to just about every state including Alaska and Hawaii and many foreign counties running about 100 watts. It is not as good as an outside antenna, but it does work. Have a nice evening. 73's
It's a flagpole!HOA rules (trust me, long story) prevent me from having a base antenna, otherwise I'd be using the CP 2000 right now.
While using an indoor magnetic loop antenna, and wasting time trying to figure out what secret antenna to use that the HOA won't see, I ended up running coax out the radio room, front door, and attached to my Sirio performer 2000 mobile antenna, center-mounted on the SUV roof. Great SWR on 10 and 11 meters (1.1:1/11 1.5:1/10). I get about 15-20mile coverage for local 11m talk and have talked across the states on 11m and into Europe on 10m with about 40 watts or so. Is it a pain to connect and reconnect after running errands and coming back home, or if I'm not on the radio? yes, but it was a bigger pain not being able to talk at all.HOA rules (trust me, long story) prevent me from having a base antenna, otherwise I'd be using the CP 2000 right now.
