One suggestion.

I've figured it out!
I must have this extremely rare social condition that causes young (under 30) fellows to get excited about radio, specifically HF.

The name of this exotic condition is "Radio Fanboy", it can cause people like me to become consumed with a radio related hobby.

Sad news is, this "condition" will affect less and less people as the years pass.
We have social media, and the special snowflakes who love paying cell phone bills to thank for this.

Best regards to you, W9CLL.

It's not that rare. I won't hit 30 for another year or so. Balanced lifestyles start with balanced feedline....maybe not. If you feel like your spending too much time on this stuff you probably are.

No doubt, I just wanted to deny it to myself, especially because I keep hearing about how much time I'm wasting from everyone around me, I need to put more effort in finding a damn job that's the real issue here, unless I start doing basic repairs and re-caps (and nothing else) God forbid if someone called me a hack job.. then I'd have to go and off myself LOL!

But honestly I need to start making money from doing something like buying & fixing eBay junk radios and flipping them at fair prices, that or give the hobby a break for a while...
It's getting bad.

My collection is starting to get crazy, and every dollar is going to this hobby;
(I don't work, and any little petty hustle I get to comeup with a few dollars, the money ends up going to more radio gear)!
You could say I've got serious problems, man!

Don't take this as an insult but definitely get a job. Something that will open doors for you or give you room to grow and have chance at retirement. A 401k would be nice but you should have started years ago. You might have to get your hands dirty and work your ass off to get anywhere but no one is going to hand you anything.

That penny hustle shit is for the birds. I know people with that mindset and they waste too much time waiting on easy money and then bitch because life didn't give them a fair hand...that's my generation. Unless you were born rich there are no free or easy rides. Life is what you make of it.

Yup you could say that and since I am the kind that holds no punches I will. YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH PRIORITIES. Get a job and look after the essentials first and the fun stuff second. THAT is how you live a balanced life.

Depending on how old you are it might not be a bad idea. Would be nice if you could go to college as well. Try to get some grant money. Stay away from the student loans though. That is JMHO, as I have seen what getting lonas like that will do!! But the military is a good place to get your shizz together!! Took me having a kid to "man up" and stop playing games with my life.
Best you can do is to at least try and when, not if, you get going, save as much money as you can for retirement!! Not an easy thing to do for many, including me at times, but I try really hard to these days at 41!! Have been doing it a while, but it never seems like long enough till I retire, one day, God willing!!! Anyways. Keep your head up. There are still lots of jobs out there. Just have to know where to look and have a good idea of what you want to do. Don't get a career type job if it's not something you at least like. I'll leave it at that. Have a good one and I truly hope you find something something for work that is worth while man!! Like 543 said, things just don't get handed to you 99.999% of the time. Unless you were born into money. Anyways. Do what you need to do and get working man!!

Four years in the military and you should have a nice chunk of change to go to college with. When I was in you could take college classes and the Navy paid for it. Back then the Montgomery GI bill topped out at $10K and that's what I finished my degree with. For that $10k I had to pay in $110/month for the first year of my enlistment. Not a bad deal. I'm sure the after enlistment college money is much better now.

Join the ARMY.
Hell no! If you have some electronic training "GO NAVY" for the education. The ET "A" school is almost like a college Associates Degree. In the Navy I never slept in the dirt or had a cold meal.
My life was in many ways was bettered due to my service in the Navy. No Village people please.
Do the reserves you can get the school and have time to play with radios.

Education wise...Join the Air Force. Everything you do equates to college credit from the Community College of the Air Force. I don't know about other states, but the Ohio Air and Army National Guard Gives 4 years free college tuition. They'll pay for 2 years of private college tuition. If you enroll in a physician or nursing program they will also buy your books, lab fees and sometimes, a monthly stipend with room and board.

You can pick a short training skill. Basically be away for less than 6 months, come back and start school. If you go active you have to wait until you get out. You can take classes while your on active duty though, but that's a pain depending on your job duties. I was never stationed anywhere for very long. I was in a perpetual state of deployment, but I liked it that way.
