I didn't see where they said he was running anything specific as to what type of gear he was using. How do you know he was using an amp? He could very well have been using an FM exciter. I had two of them in my possession a few years ago but scrapped the tube type exciter. It ran ten watts. I just scrapped the old solid state exciter but kept the 20 watt power amp that was in it. Never know when I may want to drive it with my Ramsey Electronics FM-25B transmitter. It does make 20 watts output when using the FM-25B as an exciter. BTW I wouldn't really do that. Anyone can buy an FM exciter which is simply a self contained complete FM transmitter with between a couple watts and up to 100 watts or more, usually designed to fit into an FM transmitter cabinet and feed the power amplifiers within. On it's one it is a complete low power FM transmitter. If you have the money you can have one of your very own. Not many people want to shell out that kind of money to play around with with great risk of being caught however. On CB that is a different matter. Thousands of people are quite willing to shell out a few hundred or a couple thousand dollars for an amp and do indeed intend to use them on the air with little chance of being caught. That makes a big difference in why one is legal to sell and the other is not.
