I've just blown the 4 pa mosfets all dead short.....took one out a real pain as it was so so tight in printed circuit board.....so i have carefully cut the leads on remainder close to the mosfet devices.....and intend to solder the new ones when they arrive to the remainder of the old leads.....i wonder if others have had trouble removing these devices ???????

The KL-40, 60, and 203 are pretty much throw away amplifiers when you break them. As an example a new 203 cost about as much as two 2879 finals. I would put it on e-bay as fix or repair, take that 20 bucks and buy a new one.

The 4 finals are mosfet devices just ordered them on ebay £8.00 total
so definitely worth repairing the amplifier.......
Do you not agree ?????

For me no. Probably cost 45 bucks total to have a tech replace the finals, I would sell it as broke and buy a new one. Even if you can replace the RM3 finals yourself there could be other issues or parts damaged. You might check and see if they sell a complete board that you can drop in. If you want to have fun and try to fix it go for it. For me it's a throw away amp.

Why did the finals blow......overdrive, antenna problem, or other internal problems in the amp?
Seems like a bit of work to get a $65 amp up and running.

I've done a fair amount of searching and could not come up with conclusive evidence as to what MOSFET the "RM3" actually is. The commonly quoted IRF520 has been tried again and again, and while it works, does not put out full power. If you figure out what MOSFET is being used, please let us know, as I have a KL503 here that is in need of some new finals.

Hi,
The four irf520n that i put into my kl203 amplifier instead of putting out about 80 watts only managed 30 watts......they were unbranded items so i have ordered four international irf520n from them....hoping for a bit more output..................

I have a KL-203P and it's actually a pretty good amp. Got it for 50 bucks new at H+Y, so there's no way if it broke I would spend money on fixing it. To each his own, though!
