Back in the late 1990's I had a 300a that had been modified with 9 pin sockets to accept the 6mj6 tube. The 6mj6/6lq6 are a slightly taller tube apparently because my old chrome top had peened dimples above all 6 to accept the taller tubes.
Just curious how much effort it would be to convert a 12 pin board to accept the 9 pin tube or would in have to make a new board?
What would be my options?

The very-earliest 300A production had the tube sockets mounted on chassis metal, wired point-to-point. It would take a fair amount of labor, but changing sockets would be doable.

Most of the 300A specimens out there have the tube sockets mounted on printed-circuit boards. Fitting a 9-pin socket into the 12 holes in the pc boards doesn't sound practical at all.
