plans for high gain ground planes?

I need something with decent freeband coverage... (25-27.99 give or take)

measurements are not the issue.. materials on the other hand are

For price vs time spent the IMAX 2000 will cover 21-29mhz
$100 or so shipped to your door.

Hard to beat that price, I have built many verticals and never got them to cover the band width that the IMAX does.

Google will be your friend on CB antenna construction. You will need basic understanding of antenna theory if you hope to get one to work.

I think you will find that gain and band-width of an antenna are 'trade-offs', a one or the other kind of thingy. You can get a sort of 'happy-medium' but not a lot of each at the same time.
You can get higher gain and band-width with an omni-directional antenna by stacking 'elements' in a vertical array. Think 5/8 (or 1/2) wave antennas stacked on top of each other. That's gonna be 40 - 50 feet of antenna even if it's ground mounted. (You see them fairly often at VHF/UHF, but not much at HF, height/length is frequency related.) Not impossible by any means, but not very practical either.

again, the sirio gainmaster will outperform everything else and its flat from 25 to 29mhz but it only handles about 500 watts unles you do the coax mod that shockwave came up with. then it goes to 1500. another good thing about it is there are no radials and they dont help to add some. it gave me 1 s-unit better then my imax

How much more $$ is that gainmaster than the price of an IMAX2000?

i think its up to $200 shiped. bends less then the imax in the wind. alot less static on receive then the imax

Just something to think about.
If it doesn't bend, then it transfers that 'bending' force to whatever is holding the thing up. Make sure the mast/pole/tower is capable of taking that extra force applied to it. That means the mounting at the top of that mast/pole/tower all the way down to the ground and the pier that mast/pole/tower sits on. All of that supporting structure will get a 'taste' of that additional force not being dissipated in that 'bending'. Not much point in having 10 pounds of gold in your pocket if your pocket won't hold it, right?

Is there a link to this coax mod??

binrat, when you see the price of the rg393 needed for the upgrade, you may cringe...on the other hand if it's not too expensive for you or you can acquire other wise, the conversion would be interesting to post pics on.

good luck.
