I have fell out of the Amateur radio passion for quite some time, I used to have a 148GTL fully modified and a President HR-2510 with a Wilson 5000 and a 1000 watt linear...

Now its been many years and I am dying to get back into it. I am the type of person who loves to have the best and go all out a no cost.

I love the 2510 due to it being digital

My question is I know its hard to come by but is the 2510 and or 2600 still top of the league and the way to go or is there other radios that could be modified that will blow these out the water

I don't know we're to go to get a modified radio so any and all help would be great

thank you in advance

Like any older radio, the electrolytic capacitors will be getting close to retirement if you choose a 2510. A shop like DTB can recap it for you and give it a full alignment if you want to go with that radio. Still a fine choice to go with.

The RCI-2950DX, RCI-2970DX, and the S-45 Omegaforce would all be fine choices if you wanted to get something different.

welcome to the forum and may you get everything you're asking for

I love my HR2510. They are great radios. Plain and simple. Just get it recapped and aligned (as was mentioned earlier) I would send it to Doc in NY

If you want to run the 2510, it is a great radio, and as it has already been said, to keep it alive send it to Doc, or Rogerbird and have them go through the radio to bring it up to snuff.
They have Known issues.
The caps are aging and need replaced, the glue used to hold many parts down to the main board and the CPU board is drying out on them and shorting/eating up traces/components and needs to be removed.
The Driver/Finals are no longer available.
The Displays are starting to show there age, you will see a lot of these radios now that there will be small "black" spots or "runs" in the corners or along the edges of the display.
These have no NOS replacements.
The ChipSwitch, the Ultimate replacement CPU for these radios is no longer available.
They require some work to get them to work good on 10 and 12 meters.

If you decide to go with a New radio, I would say go with the new 2950DX or if you want a High Power radio, the 2970N2 has been around long enough to get all the bugs worked out.
You get a Factory Warranty with a new radio.
It has more frequency coverage than the 2510/2600 out of the box, it has offsets for working repeaters, a bigger display, and it is a new radio, not a 30 year old radio.
The one I have in my truck now is a great radio, and is holding up well to rough usage.
I have not used the New Optima, but the are getting very good reports.

The 2510/2600/Lincolns are good radios, but the fact is that they are getting old...
