POWER PLUS 150 AMP? What is this? Info needed on using it.
Bought this at a flea market as it looked cool. Is this a CB amp. Does anyone have the manual or some type on user info for it. Thanks Ron

It is obviously a simple 150 watt CB amplifier. You have been a forum member for several months and should know this.

it's a cb amp . there should be 2 coax connectors on the back , one for the radios input and one for the amps output .
the on switch turns the amp on and off .. duh
the REC switch turns on a preamp to make signals louder ..... and typically the static goes up too .
the SSB switch is for using the amp in ssb mode with a ssb radio . you'll want it off during AM use .
the HIGH switch allows the amp to lower it's output power if your radio is pushing it too hard .... i'd keep it around 100 watts or less pep with a 25ish watt deadkey .

run your power lines for it from your battery's + and - terminal
AND BE SURE TO FUSE THE + LINE A FEW INCHES OR LESS FROM THE TERMINAL .
that will keep the vehicle from catching fire if you ever get a short in the + power wire to thevehicles frame/body .

Darticus, the link for the Silver Streak is pretty much what you have. Since cb amplifiers are illegal there is no manual for them. Psycho pretty much nailed it I think so no need to get pissy.

That said if you are going to run it you will need a 3 or 6 foot jumper. 10 gage red power line to the battery, 10 gage ground to the floor or firewall, a 20 amp fuse, then make sure your radio dead keys say 1.5 watts on AM and say 12-20 watts peak.

left switch turns it on, rec is the receive pre-amp that boosts weak signals, SSB is run when you talk sideband it adds the delay, the hi switch is for hi and lo power. Thats pretty much it. Nice little amp.

Thanks snot face. You are very kind to respond. Me

You called me a Snot Face? I have been called some bad names since my space ship landed on this planet but how did you find out I am from the undiscovered planet Snotu? BTW...the death rays from Mars are very overrated.
When you are old enough to drive there is a section in this forum that has info on how to get your mobile set up.

9C1Driver nailed it. One needs to tune/dial in the radio output to whatever amp you have. Sorta like custom tailoring a suit. Over-driving amps will sound like crap, give off nasty harmonics, possibly get you in deep 'stuff', and even destroy the amp too. Some amps need to see a dead key from the radio as low as 1/2 watt. Since it has MRF455's in it; those transistors have a really high gain/input power ratio. IOW; a little dab of radio output power goes a long way. Often too much from what I hear on the radio; many people don't have the ability nor the opportunity to get the radio set up right for the linear. Their power output is anything but linear. Linear power output is where you really set your aim/goal - IMO.

BTW - are you running both SSB and AM?
Or just AM?

I recently got a Galaxy 225 amp (uses two SD1446's; practically the same devices in your amp BTW) from a forum member just to play around with it a bit. Running 8 watts/peak into it on SSB mode produced ~130 watts. Had to turn down the ALC pot on the radio's board; but it works fine now on SSB.

SSB has different requirements than AM does. On AM it splattered (even with 95% modulation), just because I need to re-tune/lower the AM dead key watts until I can see a clean 1:4 dead key/peak watts ratio. I'm betting that I will have to turn the radio down to 3/4 of a watt (maybe even 1/2 watt) dead key and 2 or 3 watts peak. Since it is a AB1 class amp; it should dead key 33 watts and peak at ~130 watts - ideally. A local recently bought a similar amp, and it splatters too much with even a 1 watt dead key and 4 watts peak.

I guess he didn't like any of our answers because he ended up on Bozo's forum asking the same questions.
