Power supply?

I was wondering if I could somehow take a power transformer from a base station and use it as a power supply for my mobile on my workbench?

The base station is a trc-434 navaho AM only, it has a switch and a connector to switch between 13.8 volt supply and 120 AC, so I am guessing theirs a power transformer inside to step the AC line voltages to 13.8 volts?

Or should I just leave this alone?

It's not just a transformer to deal with. There is also a rectifier to convert the AC to DC, filter capacitors to filter out the AC ripple from the DC and a regulator circuit to keep the voltage constant when switching from RX to TX. It would all be located in a common area of the chassis and often on it's own circuit board but unless you know what you are doing it may not be a great idea to do without some advise from someone that understands power supplies.
