I want to power my anytone from the cig lighter of my truck. Its a 2002 dodge dakota sport the fuse in the box for it is a 15 amp and my radio i believe has a 10 amp fuse in line. The radio does 30ssb 12am and 40fm is this to much to run from the cig lighter i cant run to battery

I always suggest using a lighter plug that does NOT have a built in glass fuse in the tip. These do not make a good contact and will overheat. been there done that and melted a few before. Use the kind that simply take the wires and either has no fuse or has the newer blade type fuse in the top. They are much better quality.

with a cig lighter? whats the fuse rated at on the cig lighter for the vehicle mine is 15 amps also how many watts ssb is the 2950 is it peaked?

That cable you want to use is the right kind. No fuse in the tip.

FWIW I ran a 2950DX with a small single SD1446 amp off the lighter socket without an issue. My lighter was factory fused for 20 amps.

damn

thats 70 watts and no issues....why do people make such a stink about the setup i know about engine noise and most radios nb/anl limits that out

When I first bought my 950,I had bought a K40 cig lighter power wire that had a 15 amp screw in fuse in the plug. It's rated at 15 amps. I used it to power my Galaxy DX-959. I used my 15 amp power receptacle. However,in it's pre-DTB state of tune, the 959's meter light dimmed and flickered severely. I instead wired the radio straight into the battery with heavy duty wires. That fixed most of the severe dimming. A cig lighter plug isn't rated to handle a radio that puts out any kind of descent power. Plus you'll introduced noise into your radio's audio output.
P.S. DTB run an extra power wire from where the power enters the radio to the on off switch and adjusted the ALC. it doesn't dim at all now.

hmmm well im gonna test it if my light flickers im gonna have to go elsewhere but 30 watts shouldnt flicker especially with a 959 tunes they are only 29 watts.

It's a K40 brand plug with knurled metal screw collar around the plunger with a Galaxy style plug on the other end. When I wired it to the battery,I had ten gauge and four gauge wires leftover from a stereo project along with solid gold plated brass connecting blocks with allen screw connections. I went with the four gauge. That insures almost no voltage drop from the battery to the radio for the length I used an abundant supply of current available. I used a very short length of the fused power wire that came with the Galaxy and connected that to the large gauge wires.

Well for starters it really is dirtier power than going directly to the battery. Secondly it all depends on the wiring to the lighter socket. Some vehicles use heavier wire and fuses than others. Mine was factory fused at 20 amps while others are fused at 15 or less. And third and probably most importantly, someone told them it was a bad idea and they just parroted it without asking why. :D

hmm

well im gonna give it a shot i ran a 50 watt s3 off a cig lighter no issues so with a radio that draws less than 10 amps i cant see a issue worst case it blows a fuse or the radios dims then i know it wont work.I just dont want to start screwing with my battery last time i did that my cable became loose and i had problems. Also i dont wanta permanent install its a in and out setup.
