President HR2510 just stopped transmitting...

SWRs are fine, unit was running cool...

all I did was connect an external speaker...

if I key the mic the LCD display says 'TX', BUT nothing on the external power meter...

there was NO warning at all

ALSO when I connect the unit to power, weather the radio is on or off, it will just barely spark

well I have 2 of these sitting around...

on the one that is acting up if I connect the ohm meter to the power connector on the back of the radio I get a reading of 306k

on the one that works correctly I get a reading of NO connection... SO there is a small short

I have another HR2510 that needs an alignment... I could pull the final out of it...

as soon as I pulled the final the short between + and - battery went away... I tested the final and it is shorting to some degree on ALL pins... so it;s dead

NEXT idea... I have a MRF-455 pill laying around... left over from a customer's 2 pill that bit the dust... It still works...

I could graft it on there and get it going... BUT would I have to upgrade other things? I plan to run the radio at or near stock power... with that in mind the old MRF455 should last for a long time to come...

I see write ups for installing an MRF455 for extra power but not just as a replacement for the MRF477 and running it at stock power levels or sightly above stock...

ideas?

well the MRF455 is in... everyone tells me the thing is a monster on the air...

sucks because I am out repair time and more importantly I am out an MRF455 pill... they are worth some coin
