hi , i just got this rig off a friend . its looks in bad shape , but it turns on and lights up. it wont key up and i cant here any squelch ? any ideas . im thinking mike but it looks ok when i opened it .. :headbang

If any radio had a chance to sit around for awhile - chances are that the pots may need to be cleaned. That may explain why the squech isn't working - the pot may be dirty. Hear any scratching sounds in the speaker when any of the knobs are turned? That is a dirty pot if it does...

Another thing - just turn it on and let it set for a few hours w/o messing with it. Electrolytic caps are funny that way. Also: do you have a 50 ohm dummy load and a power meter? Don't try to key up the radio w/o one. Or - use a known good antenna.

cheers rob will try that tomo for a few hours . looks like its been a while since its been on. ps had it hooked up to a mag mount that i knew worked. thanks again wil reply soon and let you know
